Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about our driving courses and SC licensing.
What age can my teen start driver education in South Carolina?
In South Carolina, teens can begin driver education at age 15. Our teen driver education program meets all SCDMV requirements, including 8 hours of classroom instruction and 6 hours of behind-the-wheel training. Upon completion, students receive a certificate accepted by the SCDMV for the licensing process.
What is the SC graduated licensing system?
South Carolina uses a graduated driver licensing (GDL) system for teen drivers. It includes three stages: a beginner's permit (age 15), a conditional license (age 15 with driver education or age 16 without), and a full license (age 16.5 with driver education or age 17 without). Our driver education program can help your teen move through these stages faster and with better preparation.
Do you provide a car for the road test?
Yes. With our Road Test Preparation package, you can use our fully insured, dual-control training vehicle for your actual SCDMV road test. This means you do not need to worry about finding a suitable vehicle or adding a new driver to your insurance before the test.
How do I schedule lessons?
Simply call us at (843) 555-1234 or fill out our contact form. We will discuss your goals, recommend the right program, and work with you to find lesson times that fit your schedule. We offer morning, afternoon, evening, and weekend sessions.
Do you offer pickup and drop-off?
Yes. We offer free pickup and drop-off for all behind-the-wheel lessons. We will come to your home, school, or workplace -- making it easy for busy students and parents to fit lessons into their schedule.
What should I bring to my first lesson?
For behind-the-wheel lessons, you need to bring a valid SC beginner's permit (or driver's license if you are taking a refresher or defensive driving course). Wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes. We provide the vehicle and all training materials.
Can I get an insurance discount for completing a driving course?
Many auto insurance companies offer discounts to drivers who complete a certified defensive driving course. Upon completing our Defensive Driving Course, you will receive a certificate that you can submit to your insurance provider. Contact your insurance company to find out what discounts they offer.
What is your cancellation policy?
We ask that you give us at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule a lesson. Cancellations with less than 24 hours notice may be subject to a fee. We understand that things come up, so please contact us as soon as possible if your plans change.
Are your instructors background checked?
Absolutely. All of our instructors have passed comprehensive criminal background checks as required by South Carolina driving school regulations. They are also certified, experienced drivers with a passion for teaching safe driving skills.
